Implementation Overview of my Assignment
For my blended World History course, I am implementing everything through Google Classroom because it keeps modules organized, integrates with Google tools my students use daily, and reduces cognitive overload right from the start. All assignments, videos, journals, and checkpoints will live in one place so students always know where to go.
Start Here Module
The Start Here section sets the tone for the course and helps students feel confident with the structure. It includes:
-
A short welcome/overview video
-
The course syllabus and weekly expectations
-
A quick “Getting to Know You” form
-
A simple tech check (Google Classroom + Edpuzzle)
This prepares students before academic content begins.
First Instructional Modules
Module 2: Early Humans
-
Edpuzzle intro video
-
Mini-lesson slides on tools, cooperation, and migration
-
A discussion prompt
-
A Google Forms checkpoint
-
A quick journal reflection
Module 3: Agricultural Revolution
-
Mini-lesson on characteristics of civilizations
-
Short video on how farming changed the world
-
Interactive timeline
-
Concept sort + discussion
-
Short written reflection
Both modules use short, clear tasks to avoid overload.
Use of Media
I keep media short and purposeful, Edpuzzle, clean visuals, Google Slides, and quick map/timeline activities. This follows the multimedia principles and helps students stay focused.
Key Course Ideas
Lectures: Only short micro-lectures. Long lectures don’t work in digital spaces.
Apprenticeship Model: Students learn through modeling, guided practice, and independent application, similar to an apprenticeship but in a blended format.
Cognitive Overload: Prevented through small chunks, consistent structure, and simple templates.
Experiential Learning: Yes, students complete simulations, discussions, timelines, and real-world tasks.
Teaching in a Digital Age
Students build digital skills by using Google tools, Edpuzzle, and online discussions. The blended model gives them practice with organization, reflection, and independent learning.
Independently Teaching
Even though the initial design was collaborative, the structure is clear enough for me to teach confidently on my own.
Professional Learning Standards
The course aligns with Learning Forward standards by using strong learning design, clear outcomes, real-world application, and consistent learning routines.
Where Start Here Fits
It’s the onboarding hub before Module 2 and ensures students feel ready.
Instructor Role
I begin as a presenter and gradually shift into facilitator and coach as students gain independence.
Blended Structure
-
Synchronous: In-class discussions, group work, simulations
-
Asynchronous: Videos, checkpoints, journals, timelines
Support
Students get clear navigation, consistent layout, and simple tutorials to prevent tech frustrations.
