Personality and Leadership Style Assessment

It is always difficult to look at oneself in the mirror and critique the way you look, speak, or even smile.  In this same way, I found it very difficult to look at myself in terms of personality and leadership assessment.  I had to look at myself in ways I really had not done before. I have taken personality tests but the ones I took always had to do with retail and theft but never compassion, charisma, or confidence.  I took several tests but the ones that seemed to explain the most and be the most thorough were the Truity big five personality test, the Personality.co personality and leadership test and finally the True Colors Leadership Assessment.

My key strengths throughout all the tests were, strength, direct communication, protective and supportive nature, courage, conflict resolution, charisma, adventurous, imaginative and innovative.  Along with these strengths I found several areas of growth as well, these were fear of vulnerability, too much independence, difficulty to rely on others, miss windows of opportunity, moving at a slower pace.  Of course, the strengths did not really surprise me but the areas for growth did.  I have always thought my independence was a strength but in fact it is a weakness.  After looking at it a bit deeper, and my wife surprising me with her reaction, I found it can be both.  In teaching I can’t expect my students to learn in the manner they need to if I do all the work for them.  Also, I cannot expect to collaborate if I am just going to go on my own and complete everything, which quite often happens.  My wife even made a comment, you have always done everything yourself, you have taught the girls and your son how to do things, but you never let them do it completely on their own.  The most surprising thing for me is how spot on the test was after my wife confirmed it, and how most were exactly as I saw myself.  This at least made me feel like I knew I was exactly as I thought I was with the few exceptions I expressed, Independent working.

I have assumed leadership roles throughout my career, including in college, as a retail manager, and now as a teacher. The personality tests I have taken have helped me set goals that aim to improve my skills as an educator and positively influence those around me. One of these goals I have set is to distribute work more evenly, promoting growth both within my Professional Learning Community (PLC) and my personal life. By implementing these goals and leveraging my current strengths, I aim to share what I have learned so that others can apply this information in their professional and personal lives as well.
